Usage Guidelines for ITS and LVC Classrooms
Using ITS Classrooms
Integrated Teaching Systems (ITS) and Language Video Cabinets (LVC) are available for use by instructors of all UIUC Timetable-listed classes. This includes undergraduate and graduate courses as well as seminars that are assigned a timetable course number and are listed in the UIUC course catalog as well as events that support the academic mission of the University of Illinois.
Security Codes
Individuals who have obtained the security code(s) should keep them in a safe place and should not disclose the code(s) to anyone. If asked for the security code, individuals should refer those inquiring to CITES Classroom Technologies (ClassTech). No one other than ClassTech staff should authorize the use of the ITS equipment.
Individuals not affiliated with UIUC (e.g. visiting speakers) and UIUC students are not allowed to possess ITS security codes.
Training and Codes
Training by ClassTech staff is no longer a requirement before using ITS equipment. However, training is still strongly encouraged. Sessions consist of workshops at the beginning of semesters or individualized training sessions which are provided throughout the year. Individualized sessions are blocked out for one hour but can often take as little as fifteen minutes. They also typically take place in the instructor̢۪s assigned ITS classroom. Ideally instructors should make the request no later than five business days before they intend to use the equipment so the classroom can be reserved. Arrangements for training are made through the training/codes request form at: http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/classtech.
Because of the variability in equipment and layout between classrooms, even experienced users should review the documentation, images, and videos associated with their assigned classroom.
Security codes are changed prior to the start of each academic semester. It is the instructors̢۪ responsibility to make a request for the current security codes. Codes will not be sent to instructors automatically.
Specialized Software
Users who desire the installation of specialized software need to make requests at least 10 days in advance. They will also be required to provide a licensed copy of the requested software or the URL of the web site for a free download. Inquires or requests should be made through the software request form at: http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/classtech. Please review the ITS Classroom Computing Guidelines on this website for detailed information on our computing environment in our Computers and Networking section.
Laptop Networking
Laptop users who wish to make network connections via the classroom network jack shall abide by all appropriate policies and conduct computing behavior in a manner that is reasonable and consistent with the academic mission of the ITS facilities.
Reasonable use implies that laptop users shall not engage in any activity that negatively affects the network itself or other users or systems on the network. In addition, the latest anti-virus software should be instituted. To learn about how to make a networking connection with your laptop, visit our Network Request page.
If a problem with the equipment occurs, individuals should notify ClassTech at their earliest convenience at classtech@uiuc.edu or by calling (217) 333-8165.
